ASUU Student Child Care Program
Summer 2013
PROGRAM MISSION
The ASUU Child Care Program provides high quality, affordable childcare to student families. Services include part-time care, non-traditional hours, a tiered fee scale and toddler-preschool age slots for University of Utah student families. Children of students receive priority placement in a program designed to support the unique needs of student families. Children interact within a safe and healthy supervised environment where program staff provides trusting relationships and age-appropriate activities. Daily activities that encourage the child’s natural curiosity and desire to learn, while also supporting individual needs, help children to develop a sense of autonomy and well being. Our program is State Licensed and accredited through NAEYC. The partnership between parents and program staff is a valuable component of the program. We strongly encourage parents to become active participants with their child’s learning experience at the ASUU Center.

ELIGIBILITY
The ASUU Child Care Program is operated within the Student Affairs Division of the University of Utah. Children of University Students have priority placement and subsidized fee options at the center. At least one student parent must be attending the University and be registered for a minimum of 6 credit hours for priority student placement. Children of University students will continue to be eligible as long as one parent maintains a registered student status. If the parent loses his/her student status at any point during the academic year, he/she may no longer be eligible for priority student placement and rates. A weighted criteria scale based on student demographics is used to determine final enrollment. While University faculty, staff, post doctorates and visiting scholars are not eligible for subsidized care, we welcome their participation in our program if student slots are unfilled.
FEES
Child Care fees are assessed at an hourly rate as outlined on the first page of our enrollment application. Our program offers sibling discounts of 10%. Limited financial assistance is available for students from the CCAMPIS Grant administered through the Child Care Coordinating Office and the “School-Life” Scholarship fund through the Associated Students of the University of Utah (ASUU). If you are interested in applying for the subsidy or scholarship, contact The Child Care Coordinating Office at 801-587-7730.
WHAT IF YOU ARE NOT ACCEPTED?
There is a very high demand for our services, particularly during the morning and early afternoon hours (10:00 am -2:00 pm). We regret that we are unable to serve all families applying for care. If you are not accepted into the program due to space limitations, you have the option to be placed on a waiting list with notification if/when vacancies occur. We also encourage you to contact the University’s Child Care Coordinating Office 801/585-5897 or www.childcare.utah.edu for additional information on campus and community childcare options.
